Homemade Dark Chocolate Snickers

These Homemade Snickers are the perfect healthy alternative to the real thing. These contain more natural ingredients and no high fructose corn syrup!

The nougat layer is typically remade with marshmallow fluff, but I recreated a healthier version that mimics the texture without all of the added sugar. I also made these with dark chocolate because I love dark chocolate! They can easily be made with milk chocolate as well.

Nougat Layer (on top of the 1st chocolate layer):

Homemade Dark Chocolate Snickers

Servings: 8 servings

Ingredients:

Both Chocolate Layers

  • 1 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup almond milk

Nougat Layer

  • 3/4 cup almond meal
  • 1/3 cup peanut butter
  • 5 dates
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla

Carmel Layer

  • 8 dates
  • 3 Tbsp almond milk

Peanut Layer

  • 1/2 cup peanuts

Instructions:

  1. Fill a large pot half full on the stove and bring to a boil. Place the dark chocolate chips and almond milk in a separate pot and place that pot on top of the boiling water pot to create a double-broiler to melt the chocolate. (The chocolate and almond milk can also be place in a large metal or glass bowl and placed on the boiling water pot if you do not have a second pot)
  2. Place half of the melted chocolate in a small dish (either an 8x8 square dish or a small rectangle pan)
  3. Place the pan in the freezer to cool and harden the chocolate layer while you make the rest of the layers
  4. Combine all the nougat later ingredients in a food processor and blend well. If you don't have a food processor, this can also be done in a standing mixer - just replace the dates in this layer with 3 Tbsp honey instead
  5. Remove the pan from the freezer and add the nougat later to the pan. Spread the mixture in the pan and press flat with your hands or a spoon
  6. Combine the carmel layer ingredients in a blender and mix until well combined
  7. Spread the carmel layer on the on top of the nougat layer
  8. Place the peanuts on top of the carmel layer
  9. Spread the reamining chocolate over the peanut layer and return to the fridge. Store the homemade snickers in the fridge
